<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nI don’t understand how it can already be December, but so it is! Which means Evil Dressmaker Christmas calendar is on. I am terribly sorry I haven’t had the energy to update my blog more frequently, but I hope that these December posts will make up to it atleast little bit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Let’s launch the calendar with meta-type of post about how this calendar comes together. I can tell you, there is quite a lot of cursing and stress involved. But don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy making it. It is super fun. However, I’m not particularly good at short daily schedules and my evenings and weekends don’t always seem to have enough hours to allow me to make daily posts fast enough. Winter light does not help at all. Sun has not really come out from behind the clouds for several days, which makes photographying somewhat challenging inside. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
My blog is mainly under the category “lifestyle”, so calendar posts can be pretty much anything about pets to handcrafts, museums to vintage finds etc. Sometimes it might be difficult to find issues to write about, especially when posting daily. For that reason I have had notebook for Christmas calendar posts for years now. I got this pretty notebook for a gift and it’s been the home of my blog Christmas calendar since 2013. This will be the eighth year. Occasionally I mark down on it other blog notes too. There is room for ideas on the side and daily list I write down the posts for each day and mark OK when they are ready for posting. Blog timer takes care of the rest, except on those days when post is late, like today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
There is two ways of how the actual post comes together. To write it first or to photograph first. Which happens first depends highly on the post itself. If it’s something to do with “doing”, like making handcrafts or visiting in place X, I naturally take photos first when it’s actually happening. If it’s more abstract thing, like this particular post or guide how to identify vintage shoes, I will write first and take photos after. When I have written the post, then I know what kind of photos I need. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I can’t really tell much about the actual writing. It just sort of happens. Usually with plentitude of words. I read the post many times during the writing. I edit, change the assembly and form. I hate blog text without any paragraphs. They are very tiring to read. So I try to avoid very long paragraphs, sometimes I fail at it. All my photos go through some editing too. I crop them, straighten them, edit the colours, darkness and sharpness. And I always reduce the size more suitable for internet, so it does not take forever for them to load. So making one post can take several hours, even if it was very carefully thought in advance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
When I plan the blog Christmas calendar, I try to design it so that similar posts are not back-to-back. Also considering the season, there is usually always some Christmas related stuff. I often like to share tips for Christmas events. But as we know, this year is already known as the Great Plaque Year 2020, so there won’t be any events or so in my blog this time. It means that I will be frantically going through my notebook for other post ideas. Hopefully you my dear readers are enjoying the calendar this year too. First year of Christmas calendar was in 2012 I believe, but back then I didn’t need notes for it yet.<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.evildressmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/calendarnotes3.jpg?resize=800%2C978\")
This was the year when the blog server went down. It took days to get it back. I was able to finish the calendar, but did not bother with the notes for the rest of the month. <\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.evildressmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/calendarnotes4.jpg?resize=800%2C908\")
Not all ideas make it to the actual calendar, like here snow globe crafting and vintage cooking.
