<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nAfter long heat wave we seem to have long rain season. Atleast here in Mouhij\u00e4rvi. It is raining pretty much daily now. I had to move my summer dresses back to the closet and return to wearing warmer clothing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yesterday we stopped by at neighbours for birthday coffee and cake. I wore my trusted folk costume skirt again. For some reason this H\u00e4rm\u00e4 region skirt seems to be my favourite, even though I have two other folk costume skirts. This is nicer colour than Kaukola (which is dark blue with red trimming) and it’s thinner and more drapey than M\u00e4nts\u00e4l\u00e4 skirt. And funny enough it seems to match my tops pretty well. I inherited my dads wool-sensitive skin, so I have to wear wool with something underneath. This time it was a slip to prevent wool from stinging me. Even though it doesn’t feel as irritating on the legs than it’s on my neck, wrists and forehead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I have earlier written about Pistos-book, which uses new term “root clothing”. I think it’s quite fun and pretty descriptive term. If talking about Finnish traditional inspired clothing, first you might think of round brimless V\u00e4in\u00e4m\u00f6inen-cap<\/a> and cross ontop, which usually are used by older men. Or perhaps linen shirts and birch bark shoes often worn by old accordion players at the countryside markets. But thankfully it is more than that these days. Younger people are starting to mix traditional folk wear with modern street wear. Perhaps this is influenced by brands and companies who are using folk wear and national costumes as part of their marketing, but adapted for modern clothes. For example finnish coffee brand Paulig is using fabric from traditional folk costume of S\u00e4\u00e4ksm\u00e4ki as their coffee ambassadors official clothing<\/a>. Also some of the folk costume patterns are used as prints in jersey fabrics for more relaxed clothing. Old knit top matches the colour of green ikat stripes perfectly. And I’m finally able to use the japanese silk jacket. Necklace reminds of folk costume jewelry, but it’s not, atleast not Finnish<\/em><\/strong>. I also got myself new glasses. No wonder the handcrafting has been a bit of a struggle lately, my eyes had started to go squinty.
