Tykk\u00e4\u00e4n joka vuosi askarrella jotain perinteisi\u00e4 (tai modernejakin)<\/strong> joulukoristeita. L\u00f6ysin ihan sattumalta kirppikselt\u00e4 paketin hopeakreppipaperia, joten oli aivan pakko pist\u00e4\u00e4 kuusenkaramellit tulille. En ihan tarkkaan tied\u00e4 joulukuusenkaramellien alkuhistoriaa, ehk\u00e4 ne tulivat Saksasta kuten joulukuusikin, mutta alunperin niiss\u00e4 kaiketi oli sis\u00e4ll\u00e4 oikeita makeisia. Muistan my\u00f6s lapsuudesta ett\u00e4 mummu aina laittoi kuuseen suklaisia, foliop\u00e4\u00e4llysteisi\u00e4 palloja ja k\u00e4pyj\u00e4 jotka sai sy\u00f6d\u00e4 sitten joulun menty\u00e4, kun kuusi purettiin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pula-aikana kuusenkaramelleihin ei ollut laittaa karkkeja sis\u00e4\u00e4n, vaan sisus tehtiin puusta tai pahvista. Ymp\u00e4rille kiedottiin silkkipaperia, hopea- tai kultapaperia ja liimattiin lopuksi enkelinkuva tai muu kiiltokuva kylkeen. Kuusenkarkkeja on ollut monen muotoisia ja materiaaleiksi on kelvannut kaikki kotoa l\u00f6ytyv\u00e4, kakkupapereista sanomalehtiin. Varakkaammilla oli sitten varaa ostella hienoja kulta- ja hopeapapereita. T\u00e4m\u00e4 suorakaiteen muotoinen malli on todella helppo ja nopea valmistaa. Nelj\u00e4n kuusenkarkin tekemiseen meni minulta noin 20 minuuttia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I love to make every year some traditional (or new style)<\/strong> Christmas decorations. By a coincidence I found some silver crepe paper from flea market, so I just had to have my take on Christmas tree sweeties this year. You might have another name for these, but here in Finland we literally call them “joulukuusenkaramellit”, Christmas tree sweeties. I am not sure where the origin of these particular Christmas decorations is, perhaps in Germany where the Christmas tree is originally from. However if I’m correct, at one point there used to be real sweeties inside. I also remember from my own childhood that Granny used to put foil-covered chocolate balls and cones on her tree. Us kids were allowed to eat them when Christmas was over and decorations were taken down. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During rashioning, there was no sweeties to put inside of these. So insides were made of wood or cardboard blocks. Those were wrapped inside silk paper, silver or gold paper and finally picture of angel was glued ontop. There has been various shapes and materials, depending what people could find from home, anything from cake papers to newspapers. Wealthier people could afford to buy gold and silver papers. This rectangular shape is easy and fast to make. It took me about 20 minutes to make four of them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Cut rectangular pieces from thick cardboard, cut larger pieces from silk paper.
Roll two cardboard pieces inside one silk paper piece, use tape or glue to keep in place. <\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

2. Cut rectangular from metal paper, just a tad longer than cardboard and
wide enough that it goes around the silk paper wrap, overlapping the edges.
Wrap around and glue to place. Press flat the ends around cardboard.<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

4. Cut fringes on the silk paper ends. Optionally you can do this
