Longer petticoats are probably from the beginning of 1900’s. Shorter petticoat is probably from later era. So sorry about the wrinkles, I didn’t have time to iron them all for this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No oikeastaan en ole ihan varma onko t\u00e4m\u00e4 kukkapitsi-hame alushame ensink\u00e4\u00e4n. Se saattaisi olla my\u00f6s kes\u00e4isempi p\u00e4\u00e4llyshame. Kangas tosin on sen verran napakkaa ett\u00e4 vannomaan en voi menn\u00e4 siihenk\u00e4\u00e4n suuntaan. Brodyyripitsi\u00e4 on ommeltu upotuksina kauttaaltaan ja keskell\u00e4 edess\u00e4 kulkee pystysuora pitsi. Alushame on takaa aavistuksen pidempi kuin edest\u00e4. Arviolta 1900-1910.
Petticoat no 1:<\/em><\/strong>
Well, actually I’m not sure if this is a petticoat at all. It could also be more summery skirt. Allthough fabric is a bit stiff, so I can’t vouch for that either. Embroidery lace inserts are sewn all over the skirt, one long vertical in the middle front. Petticoat is slightly longer on the back. Ohuesta herk\u00e4st\u00e4 materiaalista johtuen t\u00e4m\u00e4 alushame on v\u00e4h\u00e4n heikossa kunnossa. Mahdollisesti my\u00f6skin sielt\u00e4 1900-1910.
Petticoat no 2:<\/em><\/strong>
This is very fine and soft cotton. I think it might have been under sheer summer dress. Due to very delicate material, this petticoat is in a bit of a bad state. T\u00e4m\u00e4 alushame on ommeltu kokonaan k\u00e4sin. Sen koko etuosa on ommeltu isoille ja pienille vaakalaskoksille ryhmitt\u00e4in. Jokainen laskos on ommeltu k\u00e4sin. Mik\u00e4 valtava ty\u00f6m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4! T\u00e4m\u00e4 on alushameista ainoa jossa on kunnollinen laahus, siksi arvelen sen olevan aivan 1900-luvun alusta. 1910-luvulla helmat olivat jo selke\u00e4sti lyhyempi\u00e4. Alushame on tasalevyinen vy\u00f6t\u00e4r\u00f6lle asti, siin\u00e4 on siis reilusti poimutusta joka kootaan vy\u00f6t\u00e4r\u00f6lle kiristysnauhalla.
Petticoat no 3:<\/em><\/strong>
This petticoat is completely handsewn. Whole front is pleated with narrow and wide horizontal pleats. Every single pleat is sewn by hand. What huge amount of work! This petticoat is the only one with train, that’s why I think it’s from the beginning of 1900’s. Hemline in the 1910’s was already shorter. Petticoat is as wide at the waist as it is at the hem, so loads of gathers, which are adjusted to waist with pullstrings. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.evildressmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/alushame3A.jpg?resize=800%2C774\")

Handstitching looks different than machine seam. Machine seam has two threads which make
loop and bind eachother. Stitches are continous, no gaps. Handstitched seam is just one thread
which goes from one side of the fabric to another, leaving gaps after each stitch. <\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Tavallisen, melko pelkistetyn pellava-alushameen helma on koristeltu silkkisin pliseerauksin ja brodyyrikankain. Petticoat no 4:<\/em><\/strong>
This is my favourite, but unfortunately it is too fragile to wear. It is also terribly small, waist circumference is only 50 cm. Ordinary, quite plain linen skirt has pleated silk trim and embroidered fabric on the hem. Like the way of the silk is, pleating has worn out badly, each fold has been shreadded, it’s more like a collection of silk strips sewn together. Under the silk, around the hem, goes printed decorative fabric.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/www.evildressmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/alushame4A.jpg?fit=602%2C1024\")

T\u00e4m\u00e4n alushameen sain hiljattain \u00e4idilt\u00e4ni ja olettaisin olevan my\u00f6h\u00e4isemp\u00e4\u00e4 tuotantoa jo pituutensa vuoksi. Ennen 1920-lukua helmat olivat pitki\u00e4 ja alushameidenkin piti olla melko pitki\u00e4 jotta ne kohottivat puvun helmaa tasaisesti. Muista alushameista poiketen t\u00e4m\u00e4n helmaa koristaa n\u00e4ytt\u00e4v\u00e4 simpukkakuvioinen valkokirjonta. Se on ommeltu kokonaan k\u00e4sin. En voi tietenk\u00e4\u00e4n olla aivan varma, mutta minulla on sellainen ajatus ett\u00e4 t\u00e4m\u00e4 saattaisi ehk\u00e4 olla kansallispuvun alla k\u00e4ytett\u00e4v\u00e4 alushame. Jokin vy\u00f6t\u00e4r\u00f6n tiiviiss\u00e4 poimutuksessa ja hameen yleisilmeess\u00e4 antaa sellaisen fiiliksen.
Petticoat no 5: <\/em><\/strong>
I got this recently from my mum and I assume this is later production, because it’s so much shorter. Before 1920’s, skirts were much longer and petticoats had to be quite long too. That way they were supporting the hem evenly. Difference to all other petticoats, this one has quite fantastic seashell shaped white work on the hem. It is completely hand sewn. I can’t be absolutely sure, but I have a feeling that this might have been originally meant for national costume. Something about the fine gathering on the waist and general look of this petticoat gives me that idea. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.evildressmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/alushame5A.jpg?fit=663%2C1024\")

Handsewn whitework doesn’t really come to full bloom without ironing it. <\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
