Voilee on helposti purkautuvaa kangasta joten pelkän saumuriompeleen sijaan tein pussukkaan tukevammat pussisaumat.

Voileeverhosta jäi pieniä tilkkuja ja brodeerauskuvioita. I decided to reduce the amount of plastic bags we haul from shops. So I made these sheer fabric bags for buying bulk vegetables and fruit. Material should be sheer and very lightweight, but also relatively strong fabric. It’s not worth to decorate it much, or use heavy fabrics, because then you end up paying extra on your veggies. Of course you can also weigh the veggies first and then put them in the bag.

I found this old embroidered voilé curtain for one euro, from a charity shop. It was big enough to make four bags, size about the same than plastic veggie bags here in Finland. Voilé is very smooth and slippery material, so price tags don’t really stick to it very well. That’s why I also made these little batches of satin for price tags. Bag closes with drawstring, which can be tied for sturdy closure. String is thin cottonmix ribbon, which is easy to tighten and knot, but also holds the knot quite well. Voilé ravels easily on the raw edge, so instead of just overlocking the seams, I used french seam to make it sturdier.

Now I have little left overs from the curtain embroidery. What should I make of those?

Leikkaa voileesta pala jonka korkeus on noin 35 cm ja leveys noin 50 cm. /

Sew that close to the bottom seam, make sure it is on the right side of the bag. Fabric must be something that stickers stick well, like satin, vinyl or similar. Furry or very soft materials don’t hold the sticker well. You can also do this before sewing the bottom seam.

Make sure that bag is right sides outwards. Sew sideseam about 0,5 cm from the raw edge, just like on section 2.

Turn inside out so that right sides are towards each other and make second stitch line about 0,7 cm from the edge. Make sure it’s wide enough for the string.
