Olen jo pitk\u00e4\u00e4n puhunut siit\u00e4 ett\u00e4 haluaisin toisen kansallispuvun. Pienell\u00e4 budjetilla reilumman kokoisia kansallispukuja ei kumminkaan putkahtele markkinoille ihan viikottain eik\u00e4 edes kuukausittain. Edulliset, alle 200 euron tai edes 300 euron puvut ovat yleens\u00e4 kokoa 34-38. Niist\u00e4 ei suurenneta kokoon 44 oikein mill\u00e4\u00e4n ilveell\u00e4. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ei tuo keskener\u00e4isen\u00e4k\u00e4\u00e4n mik\u00e4\u00e4n satasen puku ollut, mutta kuitenkin budjetissa, toisin kuin jopa tonnia l\u00e4hentelev\u00e4t puvut huutonetiss\u00e4. Minua vieh\u00e4tt\u00e4v\u00e4t muhkeat ja erikoiset p\u00e4\u00e4hineet, joten M\u00e4nts\u00e4l\u00e4 sopii oikein hienosti toiseksi kansallispuvukseni. Minulta jo l\u00f6ytyv\u00e4\u00e4n Kaukolan kansallispukuun kuuluva n\u00e4ytt\u00e4v\u00e4 pliseerattu suurhuntu on tekeill\u00e4. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Viime perjantaina k\u00e4vin noutamassa puvun ja sunnuntaina tein nopean inventaarion siit\u00e4 mit\u00e4 puvusta oli tehty ja mit\u00e4 pit\u00e4isi tehd\u00e4 ennenkuin puku on k\u00e4ytt\u00f6kuntoinen. Tehty on vain pirtanauhat taskuun ja alushameeseen, paidan kirjailut ja koristelut sek\u00e4 silkkiesiliinan vy\u00f6t\u00e4r\u00f6. Hame- ja liivi kangas on tietysti kudottu, mutta ne ovat viel\u00e4 kankaana. Isoin ty\u00f6 lienee n\u00e4ytt\u00e4v\u00e4ss\u00e4 sarvimyssyss\u00e4 ja siihen kuuluvassa j\u00e4ttim\u00e4isess\u00e4 pitsireunuksessa. Minulla tuskin tulee olemaan satoja euroja rahaa pelkk\u00e4\u00e4n k\u00e4sinnypl\u00e4ttyyn pitsinp\u00e4tk\u00e4\u00e4n, joten todenn\u00e4k\u00f6isin vaihtoehto on opetella nypl\u00e4\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n se itse. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Helpointa on kuitenkin aloittaa ty\u00f6 puolivalmiista paidasta, siirty\u00e4 siit\u00e4 hameeseen ja liiviin, viimeistell\u00e4 esiliina, valmistaa tasku ja j\u00e4tt\u00e4\u00e4 viimeiseksi p\u00e4\u00e4hine. Ilman sarvimyssy\u00e4kin pukua voi k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4. Edellinen omistaja on luonnollisesti aloittanut ty\u00f6n omien mittojensa pohjalta joten hamekangas on ihan himppasen liian lyhyt itselleni. Viisi sentti\u00e4 lis\u00e4\u00e4 ja se olisi melko t\u00e4ydellinen. Pienill\u00e4 kikkailuilla se on varmasti oikein hyv\u00e4 vaikka perfektionisti p\u00e4\u00e4ss\u00e4ni v\u00e4nk\u00e4\u00e4 asiasta. Puvun helmaan tulee nimitt\u00e4in alkper\u00e4isen ohjeen mukaan musta reunus jonka avulla saan k\u00e4ytetty\u00e4 kankaan leveyden mahdollisimman tarkkaan. Tarvikepaketissa on valkoista pellavaa alushametta varten mutta ajattelin ostaa valkaisematonta pellavaa liivin vuoriin. Korua t\u00e4h\u00e4n pukuun ei kuulu. N\u00e4ill\u00e4 tiedoilla arvelisin ett\u00e4 syksyll\u00e4 minulla voi olla jo k\u00e4ytt\u00f6kuntoinen M\u00e4nts\u00e4l\u00e4n puku. Ainoa ongelma on ett\u00e4 mit\u00e4 ihmett\u00e4 teen noille kaikille ylim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4isille villalangoille?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a long time I have talked abot wanting another national costume. However, on my small budget there is not costumes in my size available every week, not even every month. Affordable national costumes, less than 200 \u20ac or even less than 300 \u20ac are usually size 34-38. It is pretty impossible to enlarge those into size 44. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes one gets lucky though. I bumped into unfinished M\u00e4nts\u00e4l\u00e4 region costume<\/a>, which didn’t have fixed price. I made an offer and it went through. It still wasn’t cheap, but atleast it was in my budget. Unlike some nice national costumes on our online auction services, they can go up to over thousand euros. I am fascinated by large or unusual headdresses, so M\u00e4nts\u00e4l\u00e4 costume is perfect choise. I already have Kaukola national costume, which is supposed to have large pleated veil. Unfortunately the veil didn’t come with it, but I am currently making one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Friday I went to pick up the costumes and on sunday I made quick invetory about what parts of the costume have been made and what needs to be done, before I can use it. Woven ribbons, embroidery to the blouse and waist on the apron are pretty much only things done. Skirt and vest fabric has been woven, but they are still in one large piece. Biggest job will be making the headress which is something called horncap (rough translation) and massive lace which goes on the edge of the cap. I doubt I have enough money to spend several hundresds of euros on short piece of bobbin lace (yup, that’s what handmade lace costs)<\/strong>, so the most probable option is to learn how to do it myself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Easiest thing to do, is to start with half-made blouse, move on to the skirt and vest, finish the apron, make the pocket and leave the headress last. After all, the outfit is ready for use even without the headress. Previous owner naturally started making this based on her own measurements. That means the skirt fabric is just a tad too short for me. Five centimeters more and it would be perfect. With little tweaking it will be ok, even though the perfectionist in my head keeps arguing about it. There is going to be black trimming on the hem, and with that I can use the fabric to the max. There’s some white linen in the package for the petticoat, but I was planning to buy unbleached for the vest lining. Often Finnish national costumes have jewelry, like brooches or necklaces, but this one doesn’t have any. Based on this informartion, it looks like I might have brand new national costme in the Autumn. Only problem is what to do with all that extra wool yarn. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
