<\/a><\/p>\nToday is Kalevala day, day of Finnish culture and our national epic poetry collection. It was collected from poem singers around Finnish countryside by Elias L\u00f6nnrot, who was also poet himself. It includes hundreds of poems of Finnish folklore and mythology and was published in 1835.\u00a0These poems are all written\u00a0(or sung)<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0in something we call kalevala metre. It is certain style and structure of rhyming, which is pretty well\u00a0explained in Wikipedia<\/a>\u00a0with samples of how it works.\u00a0However today I wanted to show you my recent thrift find. It is Kanteletar, a sister publication for Kalevala. It was published in 1840 and also includes similar folklore poems.\u00a0This actual print is not that old though. Unfortunately I didn’t notice until at home, that this book has quite strong odor of mold\/damp. So now I’m trying to get the odor away. I have sprinkled baking soda between the pages and book is tightly sealed inside plastic bag. It’s now been one week and odor has not faded much yet. This might be quite long process, but let’s keep fingers crossed. I suppose I have to buy large pack of baking soda.<\/p>\n According to the theme, I am wearing something more romantic today. This very fine cotton blouse is hand embroidered. It is not Finnish origin, but most likely from Baltic area or Eastern Europe. I am dreaming of finding wool skirt with vertical colourfull stripes, like some of the skirts in Finnish national costumes. I haven’t found suitable yet. I’d love to have something multicoloured, perhaps red, green and yellow. Untill then, my ordinary skirts will have to do. I am also taking part on one very interesting project in Espoo, but I will tell more about that later.<\/p>\n
