– Tarkista ett\u00e4 kaikki voidepuikot on kierretty alas asti, muutoin syntyy vajaita puikkoja.
\n– Voidepuikot kannattaa teipata tai kietoa kuminauhalla yhteen tosi tiukasti jo ennen kuin aloittaa sulatuksen, muuten tulee kiire. Toinen hyv\u00e4 kikka on t\u00f6kki\u00e4 puikot aaltopahvipalan l\u00e4pi niin ett\u00e4 pahvi j\u00e4\u00e4 melko korkealle. Silloin tulee v\u00e4hemm\u00e4n siivoamista jos kaataa ohi, kun seos ei levi\u00e4 joka paikkaan vaan j\u00e4\u00e4 pahviin.

Do you remember when I posted about my discontinued<\/a> favourite lip balm? Even though I got really good tips about replacements. I got so annoyed about it, I decided to make my own lip balm. These days making your own cosmetics has become really popular when people are trying to get towards more natural and less chemicals. Ingredients for natural cosmetics are readily available. I ordered lip balm-kit with really good instructions and all the ingredients for about 15 lip balm sticks. I also ordered red mica. Mica is shimmering mineral, which I don’t really care much, but for some reason or another, I chose that to be my tint in the lip balm, and was too stingy to order another with it.<\/p>\n

Package is from Limepop<\/a> and it came with really good instructions. It also came with aroma, because package without aroma was not available at all. Lip balm is really easy to make. The trickiest part honestly was to firmly pour the melted wax mixture into the sticks. Because I still want to tweak the colour and these are supposed to last only about six months, I only used half of the ingredients. By adding vitamin E, they should last about half longer.<\/p>\n

My ingredients:<\/strong><\/span>
\n7,5 g bees wax (cera alba for cosmetics)
\n7,5 g cocoa butter
\n7,5 g shea butter
\n1 table spoon of jojoba oil
\n2 tea spoons of castor oil
\n0,5 tea spoons of vegetable glyserin
\nabout 10 drops of vanilla aroma
\n9 “tips of the knife” of red mica<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Here are some of my notes about the process. These might help others on their lip balm project.<\/p>\n

– Check that all sticks are fully screwed to the bottom.
\n– You can either tape the sticks or tie them together with rubber band before you start melting the wax. You can also poke them through thick cardboard. That prevents the melted wax from spreading everywhere in case you poor over the edge.
\n– Originally I wasn’t going to use any aroma, but then I thought that small amount doesn’t matter. Weeeel, little bottle was not meant for precise measuring. Probably not more than 10 drops but even that was too much for my delicate nose.\u00a0 Also especially the shea butter smells quite strongly, so perhaps in the future I don’t do aroma. Or if I want to add some, I should do it with pipette to keep the amounts reasonable.
\n– Because I don’t have measuring spoon, I measured the mica colour just with the tip of the knife. It’s hardly very accurate measuring method. I used 9 tips of the knife on this batch. Colour could still be more intense and less mica.
\n– Fire red mica is much more orange than my original lip balm. So for the next try-out, I need to add little bit of blue pigment. I should also get measuring spoon, so that I can actually replicate the same colour later.\u00a0 Atleast mica requires mixing pretty much all the time to keep it evenly spread. Now on the lips shine is more visible than the actual colour.
\n– For my taste this recipe makes a bit too soft mixture. Due to cocoa and shea butter it melts on your skin pretty quick. I like a tad harder and waxy texture, so I will be adding more wax and less oils and butter next time. It also might have been that I accidentally poured a little bit more than half of the oils in.
\n– Unless I get used to the smell of shea butter, I might have to try replacing it with something else.<\/p>\n
