Aitapisto antaa saumaan hiukan joustoa ja p\u00e4\u00e4st\u00e4\u00e4 sauman el\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n. Sill\u00e4 voi tehd\u00e4 k\u00e4mmenselk\u00e4\u00e4n my\u00f6s hieman muotoilua.<\/p>\n
Yesterday I was so tired after work I didn’t really feel like posting anything, so I’m a bit behind on my Christmas calendar posts. But here’s yesterdays post.<\/p>\n I made pair of fingerless mitts for the post yacht sail. I thought there might be need for those in the boat. And of course they are handy for other historical re-enactment events too. These kind of fingerless mitts have been used later too. You might have seen similar in Jane Austen- and Charles Dickens-films. Atleast according to Mantua maker’s pattern<\/a>, these should be historically accurate between 1750 and 1900’s. My gloves are fine wool with cotton lining. You can wear them either side ontop. Triangular flap warms fingers nicely, even though I think the original purpose was just to show off the fancy lining.<\/p>\n I didn’t have pattern for these, so I drafted one myself. I made slight mistake on it and the hole for thumb ended up too much on the backside of the mitten. For this reason, gloves tend to turn and twist while wearing them. Otherwise they are pretty good and worked nicely. For the next mittens I have to adjust the thumb hole a bit. I sewed these completely by hand, using catch stitches and linen thread. Catch stitch doesn’t make the seam too tight and allows movement.
