Historianel\u00e4v\u00f6ityshommissa erilaiset p\u00e4\u00e4hineet ovat olennainen osa autenttista kokonaisuutta. Niinp\u00e4 my\u00f6s 1900-luvun alun aikamatkaavalla palvelusv\u00e4ell\u00e4 piti olla p\u00e4\u00e4hine. Malliltaan se on varsin yksinkertainen, mutta koska siihen toivottiin ohjetta niin t\u00e4ss\u00e4 se tulee. Ty\u00f6vaihekuvia ei ik\u00e4v\u00e4 kyll\u00e4 ole, mutta toivottavasti t\u00e4st\u00e4 on silti apua. Kankaaksi k\u00e4y kaikkein parhaiten l\u00e4pikuultava puuvillaorgandi, mutta koska sen saatavuus ei ole aina kovin hyv\u00e4 niin mik\u00e4 tahansa ohut puuvilla sopii. Kun p\u00e4\u00e4rmeet ovat valmiit, rypyt\u00e4 tai laskosta r\u00f6yhel\u00f6iden p\u00e4\u00e4rm\u00e4\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00f6m\u00e4t reunat ja kiinnit\u00e4 ne keskikappaleeseen (ensinn\u00e4 leikattuun). Yksi kumpaankin reunaan, tai toiseen kaksi jos teet muhkeamman. T\u00e4sm\u00e4\u00e4 pituus riitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n tasaisesti koko matkalle. Ompele r\u00f6yhel\u00f6 kiinni vain toiseen reunaan.
\n6. Aseta toinen keskikappale niin ett\u00e4 r\u00f6yhel\u00f6t j\u00e4\u00e4v\u00e4t kahden palan v\u00e4liin. Ompele toinen r\u00f6yhel\u00f6reuna. K\u00e4\u00e4nn\u00e4 keskikappaleet siten ett\u00e4 saumanvarat j\u00e4\u00e4v\u00e4t niiden sis\u00e4\u00e4n ja kiinnit\u00e4 toisen keskikappaleen avonainen reuna joko k\u00e4sin tai p\u00e4\u00e4llitikkauksella. Saumanvarat t\u00e4ytyy tietysti taittaa kappaleiden v\u00e4liin.
\n7. Lopuksi kumpaankin p\u00e4\u00e4h\u00e4n ommellaan pieni lankasilmukka pinnej\u00e4 varten. Jos kangas on ohutta kuten organdi, siit\u00e4 voi ty\u00f6nt\u00e4\u00e4 hengett\u00f6m\u00e4t pinnit suoraan l\u00e4pi kampaukseen.<\/p>\n

In historical re-enactment and living history events headdresses are essential part of the outfit. That’s why also the servant timetraveller to 1900’s must wear something. the style is very simple, but since it was requested, here’s the quick tutorial. Unfortunately I don’t have photos of each phase, but hopefully this still helps. Best fabric would be cotton organdy, but because that might be difficult to get, any fine cotton should do. If fabric is not very stiff, it can be starched.<\/p>\n

1. Take measure over your head, approximately from ear to ear. This is the “length” of the headdress.
\n2. Cut a piece of fabric on double material. Length is the same than previous measurement and width about 2-4 cm. Piece can be wider in the middle and ends.
\n3. Cut two or three ruffles, which are 2,5-3 times as long as the measurement on your head. Ruffles are about 3-5 cm wide.
\n4. Sew narrow hemming on one long edge of each ruffle. You can find good instructions for it in here<\/a>. You can also do machine hemming if you like.
\n5. When hemming seams are finished, pleat or gather the unhemmed edges of all ruffles. Pin them to each side of one middle piece. Or if you are doing three ruffles, two on one edge and one on the other. Distribute the gathering\/pleating evenly. Sew only one edge.
\n6. Place now the other middle pieces so that ruffles are between the middle pieces. Sew the second ruffle (the one you didn’t yet sew) between the middle bits. Turn middle pieces right side up, so that seam allowances are left inside. Attache the open edge of middle pieces either by hand or topstitching, by folding seam allowances inside.
\n7. Finally sew yarn loop for each end of the headdress for pins. If fabric is very fine like organdy, you can push thin hairpins straight through it.<\/p>\n
