\nL’Officine Universelle Buly is a different cosmetic shop. It started in the early 1800’s<\/a> as a perfumerie, owned by Jean-Vincent Bully. About hundred years it charmed customers with perfumes and other cosmetics, but for some reason it was then forgotten. Now it is blooming again with new owners and new brand. Concept is focused on naturally sourced ingredients. Product line includes skin and hair products, brushes and sponges, scented candles and matches. Main boutique is in Paris, but there are other stores for example in Taipei and London, all decorated in antique style.<\/em><\/p>\n

\nI have followed Colleen’s Instagram account for a while now. He is egyptologist by profession and teaches art history in Hartford University. At first I thought her Instagram account was made for made-up character. It seemed way too perfect for little old me who loves 1920’s and loves history and used to be very into Egypt and dreamed of being an archeologist (influenced by Indiana Jones, of course)<\/strong><\/span>. \nEvery now and then movies and other entertainment mentions Pinkerton detectives. It’s not just any made-up detective agency, but one of the first private detective agencies in the world. Barrelmanufacturer Allan Pinkerton became detective by accident. By a coincident he helped police to catch counterfeit gang and after that started getting other detective gigs too. He founded his own detective agency around 1890. Company slogan “We never sleep” and their logo with huge open eye in the middle, created the term meaning private detective, “private eye”. By 1890’s Pinkertons already had over 2000 detectives and 30 000 reserves around America. Being afraid of someone hiring them as private army state of Ohio outlawed Pinkertons. Despite of that, company still works. Now it’s mainly working on field of security surveillance and security risk mapping.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

\nOne of the most unusual fashion style of the 1900’s in my opinion is so called bullet bra. You know, the bra that turns breasts into bullet shape. In extreme they were like sharp missiles you could poke your friends eye out, and at the most modest style was soft cone shape. Typical construction included spiral stitching on the cups. Depending on the breast size you had either very modest or rather extreme silhouette. Often natural breasts didn’t fill the whole bra, so extra padding was used to fill the empty tip of the bra and helped to create the desired bullet shape.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
