\nLast year was the premier of movie called Florence Foster Jenkins, starring Meryl Streep. It’s about socielite and hairess who loved music and singing, even though she wasn’t particularly good at it. However, she was so influential that she managed to sell out her Carnegie Hall concert in two hours. This is not a made up story, it’s true. There are even surviving recordings<\/a> of Florence’s singing. So you can decide yourself the quality of her talent. Suprisingly last year was also found film footage of Florence, the only surviving film footage of her. You can watch clips of that here<\/a>. \nNational library of France has vast archive of digitized womens magazines which you can browse online. Magazines are dating approximately 1940’s and backwards, atleast to 1800’s. For those who don’t read French it might be difficult to navigate. Page is not particularly well designed and interface is quite awkward. It might be difficult to get back to the fashion magazine directory after browsing if you’ve gone too far for back-button. However, browsing is definitely worth it, there are hidden gems amongs them.\u00a0Tip:<\/strong> <\/span>when you click chosen year of a magazine, a calender view opens. Click on the highlighted Janvier 1 to find the actual magazines. It took me awhile to find it. If you loose the whole fashion section, click Collections on top right corner, then Presses et revues. Now go to drop down box on left side and choose Presse par th\u00e9matiques and Presse feminine.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

\nIn the year 1910 French movie maker Charles Path\u00e9 arrived to London. He introduced his new invention to people: the cinema news reel. And British Path\u00e9 was born. These short films, originally shown in cinemas, reported about everyhting from weird hobbies to cooking, conflicts, fashion and ordinary people. During past 100 years there has been made thousands and thousands of short documentary films. You can watch some of these films in BP YouTube channel for free.
