Olette varmaan jo j\u00e4nnityksell\u00e4 odottaneet kuvia Tuhannen ja yhden y\u00f6n maskeraadeista. P\u00e4iv\u00e4 ja ilta oli kertakaikkisen t\u00e4ydellinen. Ehk\u00e4 jopa parempi kuin edelliskerralla. P\u00e4iv\u00e4ll\u00e4 perehdyimme parin tunnin ajan solatansseihin. Tied\u00e4tteh\u00e4n, niihin joita olette n\u00e4hneet esim Jane Austen-filmatisoinneissa, miehet seisovat toisessa riviss\u00e4 ja naiset toisessa riviss\u00e4 vastap\u00e4\u00e4t\u00e4. Tanssity\u00f6pajan j\u00e4lkeen meill\u00e4 oli pari tuntia aikaa laittautua tanssiaisasuun ja -varustukseen.<\/p>\n

Noin kello viisi maskeraadi julistettiin alkaneeksi. T\u00e4n\u00e4 vuonna min\u00e4 olin ilmoittanut halukkuudestani pit\u00e4\u00e4 pieni esitelm\u00e4. Aiheeksi valitsin kahvin koska se saapui Suomeen 1700-luvulla. Ehk\u00e4 kerron siit\u00e4 joku toinen kerta. Kahviluennon j\u00e4lkeen kuulimme luentaa 1700-luvun Turkin matkakertomuksesta. Ja sitten olikin illallinen valmis ja saimme nauttia kerrassaan erinomaisen 1700-luvun reseptein valmistetun, modernista jokseenkin poikkeavan aterian. Siihen kuului mm. j\u00e4nnitt\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4 raitahyytel\u00f6\u00e4, eritt\u00e4in maukasta lammasta riisipedill\u00e4, sheikin sienipiirasta sek\u00e4 herkullista orientaalia omenapiirasta.<\/p>\n

Aterian j\u00e4lkeen oli tanssin vuoro. Tanssia tahdittaa aina historiallista\u00a0musiikkia soittava Muskotti-yhtye. 1700-luvun solatanssit ovat siit\u00e4 erikoisia ett\u00e4 niit\u00e4 tanssitaan niin pitk\u00e4\u00e4n kuin tanssitaan. Tanssin pituutta ei siis m\u00e4\u00e4rit\u00e4 kappaleen pituus vaan tanssijoiden m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 solassa ja se miten pitk\u00e4\u00e4n tanssijat jatkavat tanssimista. Jos oikein kurjasti k\u00e4y niin yksi tanssi saattaa jatkua puolisenkin tuntia. Voi musikanttiparkoja! Me ei onneksi ihan niin pitki\u00e4 tansseja tanssittu. Yhdeks\u00e4n tanssia oli buukattu ohjelmaan ennenkuin oli aika pakata tavarat kasaan ja suunnata kohti kotia. Tanssin kahdeksan, vaikka opettelimme pajassa\u00a0niist\u00e4 vain noin kolme. Jei! Verrattain helppoja siis. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 omat kuvani mit\u00e4 illan aikana ehdin napata (oli liian kivaa sy\u00f6dess\u00e4 ja tanssiessa jotta olisin ehtinyt kuvata enemm\u00e4n)<\/strong><\/span>. My blog has been quite filled with history recently. Let’s continue with that just a little while. Perhaps you have been anxiously waiting for the masquerade ball photos. The day and evening were just perfect. Perhaps even better than last time. Afternoon was reserved for \u00a0longways dance workshop. You know, the kind you see in Jane Austen movies. Men stand in one row and women on the other, opposite to them.\u00a0After dance workshop we had two hours to get dressed and ready for the ball.<\/p>\n

Around five the masquerade was announced opened. This year I offered myself to hold a lecture. I chose coffee for the subject, because it arrived to Finland early 1700’s. Perhaps I tell you about that some other time. After my coffee lecture there was reading from 1700’s Turkey travel journal. And then the supper was ready to be consumed. It was absolutely fabulous meal, completely made with 1700’s recipes. Quite different to modern foods. It included for example exciting striped jelly, very tasty lamb on rice, Sheiks mushroom pie and delicious oriental apple pie.<\/p>\n

After the meal the dancing started. There’s always a live band, Muskotti, which plays historical music. 1700’s longways dances are different to modern because one dance lasts as long as it lasts. So length of the dance is not determined by the length of the song, but the amount of dancers or how long they continue dancing. It might go\u00a0bad for the musicians and dance continues around half an hour. Poor musicians! We didn’t dance that long though. There was nine dances in the program, before we had to pack our stuff and head home. I danced eight, even though we learned only three int he workshops. Yay! Not that complicated dances.
