Mutta pari p\u00e4iv\u00e4\u00e4 sitten v\u00e4l\u00e4hti. Olen nimitt\u00e4in pitk\u00e4\u00e4n jo haaveillut nilkkaimista. Mulla on tuolla varastossa yhdet lyhyet armeijan tms. nilkkaimet, mutta sellaiset naisellisemmat pidemm\u00e4t versiot\u00a0pit\u00e4isi saada 1900-luvun alun asuihin. Idean \u00e4kk\u00e4sin Miss Hendrien blogista<\/a>. Joten huhtikuun haaste taitaa olla sit\u00e4 my\u00f6ten sitten selv\u00e4\u00e4 kauraa. Jei!<\/p>\n

March Historical Sew Monthly has the theme of protection<\/a>. It was really difficult to figure out what to do. Finally I decided to knit something (protection from cold, you see)<\/strong><\/span>. Some day I dream about making outfit for Charles Dickens era, mid 1800’s. I’m starting from the wrong end sort of, but I’m now launching the dickensian outfit with sontag aka bosom friend. It’s specifically shaped shawl, kept on shoulders, wrapped over chest sides overlapping, then tied on the waist at the back. It warms nicely both back and chest. To be precise, I think bosom friend and sontag are not exactly the same thing, but in many sources both names are used as synonyms.<\/p>\n

I wanted to do some stash busting for this project, so I chose two very fine wool mix yarns for this. I hate thick yarns even though knitting them would be easier and faster. I just don’t like what the texture of thick yarn knit looks like. So, this project is “somewhat” unfinished, let’s see if it finishes in time. I’m almost half way now. I used this free Ravelry-pattern<\/a> as a base for it.<\/p>\n

I have also been thinking about the April HSM, the gender bending garment. That seems even more difficult to figure out than this months challenge. But couple days ago it hit me. I have been dreaming about making spats for quite some time. I already have one pair of short army etc. spats, but I would love more feminine and longer version for early 1900’s outfits. I got the idea from Miss Hendrie’s blog<\/a>. So I think that pretty much solves the April HSM challenge then. Yay!<\/p>\n
