<\/a><\/p>\nWe went to visit my mum and by coincidence I saw old content\u00a0of the estate from the year-36. Deceased mentioned in the content of the estate was the spinster Aunt of my Grandfathers, born in 1867. At that time they used to mark everything very carefully on the content of the estate, from dishes to the clothing. They are not so precise nowadays. But because of that it is easier to find out how people actually lived. They didn’t really have much, but on the other hand they might have had small savings in the bank. Quite often that savings covered the funeral, so the actual inheritance wasn’t very big. Even still that small inheritance might have been significant to the receiving end.<\/p>\n
In my Grandfathers aunts case, belongings were very few. I’m not exactly sure, but I assume Aunt Tilda was living with her brother, atleast the last of her years. The content of the estate mentioned that brother was entitled to receive meal money from the sister, due during last\u00a0two years. When looking at that list it seems quite ridiculous to look at my own wardrobe and junk around me. People managed with much less stuff, and collecting it wasn’t even possible. People lived in very small housing and it was more important to fit all the people rather\u00a0than the stuff.<\/p>\n
I noticed how little clothes Tilda had, in addition to couple coats just two skirts, a dress, three pairs of stockings and some broken clothes and couple scarfs. Another peculiar thing was that Tilda had reeds for looms but no looms at all. I can’t figure out why was that. Does anyone else have an explanation?<\/p>\n
